General Transformer Aluminum Enameled Winding Wire

Aluminum conductors have a lower density and higher specific heat capacity than copper conductors, which means that aluminum conductors generate less heat and dissipate it more quickly for the same current load. In addition, the malleability and ductility of aluminum makes it easier to machine and form windings.

The electrical conductivity of aluminum is about 61% of that of copper, which means that an aluminum conductor of the same size will have a higher resistance compared to a copper conductor. Therefore, when designing transformer windings, the resistive losses and heat generation of aluminum conductors need to be taken into account to ensure that the windings operate within an acceptable temperature range.

In order to improve the insulating properties of aluminum enameled winding wires, commonly used insulating materials include polyimide and polyurethane. These insulating materials are effective in isolating the conductors and preventing current leakage and short circuits between windings.

Aluminum enameled winding wire differs from copper winding wire in that the welding and connection of the aluminum conductor requires special attention. Due to the oxidizing nature of aluminum, special methods and materials are required for welding and connecting to ensure a good electrical connection and to prevent heat and loss in the joints.

The manufacture and use of aluminum enameled winding wire usually follows international standards such as IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association). These standards define the technical requirements, performance specifications and test methods for aluminum enameled winding wire to ensure its suitability for general purpose transformers and other electrical equipment applications.

General-purpose transformer aluminum enamel winding wires are widely used in various transformers, inductors, reactors and other electrical equipment. They are mainly used in transmission and distribution systems, where aluminum conductors are widely used in lower current and weight and cost sensitive applications.

When selecting aluminum enameled winding wire for general-purpose transformers, a combination of factors such as electrical conductivity, insulation, thermal stability and compatibility with other materials need to be considered. This ensures that the winding wire will provide good performance, reliability and safety in electrical equipment such as transformers.
